Starting out in the early 80s, Morales has been a regular at some of the most iconic New York clubs The Loft, Red Zone, and Paradise Garage in particular), and teamed up with Chicago house legend Frankie Knuckles and the ‘most powerful woman in dance music’ Judy Weinstein to create Def Mix Productions. Instagram has started removing likes on posts as part of a trial for changes on the platform.
The social media network hopes that by removing likes, people will feel less "pressure" around the content they post.
Insta is currently testing out the change Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Italy, Japan and Brazil, with the words 'and others' following a username of who has liked the content, instead of a number. People will still be able to see the number of likes of their own content.
Mia Garlick of Facebook Australia and New Zealand said: "We hope this test will remove the pressure of how many likes a post will receive, so you can focus on sharing the things you love."
This trial follows a similar one which took place in Canada in May. [MORE] |

You know what people say about New York City: It’s a helluva town. It’s a concrete jungle where dreams are made of. And, as Billie Holiday once sang, its “glittering crowds and shimmering clouds in canyons of steel” make us feel like we’re home.
Millions of people have found inspiration in New York’s buildings, its energy, and its people—but there are also so many under-the-radar places, moments, and experiences in the five boroughs that go a long way toward cementing Gotham’s reputation as the greatest city in the world.
Let’s count the ways we love New York City. [MORE] |

When the mercury rises, many New Yorkers’ first instinct is to flee to the nearest public pool or beach (or to flee the city altogether), but sometimes the best solution is some good ol' fashioned, ice-cold air conditioning. Museums and movie theaters are an obvious respite, but who wants to shell out $15 just to stop sweating?
In addition to the city-designated cooling centers, there are dozens of places in New York where you can bask in refrigerated air for free. If your personal A/C comes in the form of a crappy window unit that only succeeds in increasing your electric bill, this map is for you— (and heat-stroked tourists). [MORE] |

Summer is almost here, which means we're constantly daydreaming about taking a dip, or relaxing in a cabana near a calming pool. Some of the finest swimming spots can be found at New York City's myriad hotels, though they almost universally come with a caveat: they're open to guests only. But if you can make friends with someone staying at the Gansevoort or the William Vale—or if you have enough money to plan your own staycation—then you just might stand a chance.
There are also some hotels that offer day passes for their swanky pools, or ones that are connected to adjacent rooftop bars—and thus, are sort of public. We've cataloged some of the best here, and noted where they're publicly accessible; if we missed your favorite (or a secret spot that you're willing to open up about), let us know in the comments. Iceland's foremost electronic music pioneer and former Mixmag cover star Björk has released a stunning music video for her track 'Tabula Rasa'. Co-produced by Arca, the haunting woodwind ballad appeared on her last album, 2017's 'Utopia'. The music video shows the Icelandic icon morphing into floral shapes and otherworldly figures with the help of some mind-boggling digital rendering.
"When creating the video, I was deeply inspired by the music and lyrics of Tabula Rasa," says music video director Tobias Gremmler in a statement. "The visual transformation of Björk into faun-like flowers and mountainous landscapes embodies the utopian concept of a harmonious coexistence between nature and human based on empathy."
The video comes following the debut of the artist's new stage concert, 'Cornucopia' - a live show which Björk has called "her most elaborate to date" that is currently housed in NYC's new Manhattan venue, The Shed. [MORE] |

The city uses an environmental review process, known as the City Environmental Quality Review (CEQR), to predict how rezonings and other major land use actions will impact neighborhoods. It’s used to study changes to neighborhood character, the potential for residential displacement, and strains to existing infrastructure, as well as developing ways to mitigate those impacts.
But that review process is not held accountable for ensuring those predictions are actually accurate, city officials said at a Tuesday City Council hearing. [MORE] |

Uber and Lyft drivers have voted to go on a brief strike on May 8, following the lead of drivers in other major cities, including Philadelphia, Chicago, and Washington D.C., the New York City Taxi Workers Alliance (NYTWA) announced in a statement on Friday.
According to NYTWA, drivers will turn off their apps on Wednesday from 7 to 9 a.m. and will meet that afternoon for a rally at the Falchi Building, where both companies have driver hubs, in Long Island City.
On the eve of Uber’s IPO, drivers will be asking the company’s leadership to provide job security by ending “unfair [app] deactivations”; livable incomes by eliminating “the scam of upfront pricing”; and regulating the fare by guaranteeing 80 to 85 percent of the fare goes to drivers. (Lyft went public earlier this year.) [MORE] |

Stretching 1.45 miles through the Meatpacking District and Chelsea along the west side of Manhattan, the High Line is one of New York’s newest—and most innovative—green spaces. The park is built along a now-defunct elevated railway; the original tracks are still visible along the path. Elevated 30 feet off the ground, the High Line weaves between buildings, offering vistas of the city and the Hudson River that are by turns dazzling and intimate.
Here, you’ll find food and gift vendors, a seasonally changing array of public art, and year-round gardens inspired by the plants and grasses that once grew wild on the abandoned tracks. Whether you want to stroll above the city, lounge in the sun, or even stargaze through high-powered telescopes, heading up to the High Line makes for one of New York City’s most singular experiences. It can get crowded, particularly in the summer, but trust us: It’s worth limboing underneath a few selfie sticks for. [MORE] |
