| Sankeys Manchester has closed down.
The club announced the news on Facebook last night, saying an official statement is forthcoming, and Manchester Evening News reports the Beehive Mill building it's situated in has been sold to property developers.
Following some tweets about something happening at Sankeys, the club wrote on Facebook: "As many of you have seen over the last hour over social media we have been forced to close due circumstances completely out of our control.
"We will be releasing a full statement in the morning to explain what has happened. We love you all and thank you for your amazing and kind words"
Beehive Mill, a Grade II* listed building and former cotton mill, is listed on estate agent Savills and Tony Hill of Radius Security, a company working with Sankeys, emailed staff and promoters to tell them it would be turned into apartments, according to the MEN.
"As you are aware we have been in negotiations with the property management agents of Beehive Mill for some time with regards to the lease for Sankeys.
"It has become apparent that the reason that they haven't issued a new agreement is due to the fact that the entire building has been sold to a residential property developer who intends to turn it into apartments."
Sankeys' lease expired last summer after the landlord refused to extend it, meaning the club's "hands are tied", according to Hill.
Hill adds that the team may look at other venue options and states Sankeys will continue to hold events. |
