| When it comes to classic film soundtracks, the one for Danny Boyle's Trainspotting is up there with the best. Music by Brian Eno, Underworld and Lou Reed features, but there could have been another mega act involved had they fully understood what the film was about.
Oasis had the chance to be included on the OST, but Noel Gallagher, thinking the heroin-fuelled flick was based on literal trainspotters, snubbed the offer, according to Trainspotting's producer Andrew Macdonald and costume designer Rachel Fleming.
Speaking at a Q&A session, Fleming revealed that she recently found out why Noel didn't get involved.
"I met Noel at a thing the other week and he said to me: 'I would have done something, but honestly I thought it was about train spotters. I didn't know.' That's what he actually said."
Macdonald added that Gallagher was even at the film's launch party in Cannes, but was unsure why he didn't want his music to be used, despite Boyle being keen to get him onboard.
Noel, a big fan of "that firm" Defected Records, wasn't the only one to palm off the soundtrack, as David Bowie apparently wouldn't allow clearance on some of his tracks to be used.
The sequel, T2, is due out at the beginning of next year, with the original cast returning 20 years on. The film will be loosely based on Irvine Welsh's novel Porno and see the characters involved in the vice industry. |
