After making his album 'Recess' available to stream via a free app, Skrillex has explained why he did it, claiming "it's not about politics" and that he wanted to re-energise the music industry by working with a number of artists. Talking to NME about the sudden album announcement, he spoke about the thinking behind 'Recess', a record that saw him collaborate with a number of artists including Diplo, Chance The Rapper and Kill The Noise. "I created amazing relationships throughout this whole record and that energy can only lead to good things. It’s about putting that energy back into the music industry. It’s not about politics, it’s not about major labels; it’s about artists getting together and creating something and being free." He also revealed that making millions of record sales wasn't a priority, saying he'd prefer it if a lot more hear the tracks online, using the live recording of the Chance The Rapper collaboration as an example. "The Chance The Rapper song got like 80,000 hits in a week. By the next day, kids were already singing along. So that’s the measure of my success, if everyone is singing along and having a good time, that’s dope. The record sales are trivial."
