Skrillex got all idealistic in a recent interview with the Guardian. The typically optimistic 26 year old took time to opine that "this dance music thing is not a bubble. Because it's not about dubstep, or techno, or house, or any other sound: those things coexist and support each other." "It's not like when grunge or nu-metal or whatever became the new trend and everyone was chasing one sound and that scene turned in on itself and lost what it had to begin with. There's room for everything," he added. Beleaguered by genre-association since his career kicked off a few years ago, Skrillex has been keen to break the shackles of classification. And why not? While we dig a good genre argument and love discussing the merits of niche sub genres down to the fine details, it's also important to remember that dance music is a big, wonderful, thriving whole made up of many different parts. Skrillex is now known for hopping genres, having started projects with Boys Noize and Diplo and been responsible for creating his own mutant, big room dance music. He's also been pictured in photos hanging with Tiësto. Like he says, we're all in this together.
