| Set in the dark, industrial surroundings of Shoreditch’s Village Underground for the very first time, Friction presents the next instalment of his much loved Elevate sessions on Saturday 1st February. Featuring a selection of artists handpicked by Friction himself, Elevate will fuse together performances from some of the scene’s most talented artists in an intimate setting.
Recognised as one of the most revered names in the game due to his impeccable three-deck mixing, Friction tops the bill with an exclusive two hour set. This will serve as the perfect opportunity for him to dive deep into his record collection and experiment with sounds from the past, present and future. Having experienced an incredible 2013, the next twelve months look set to be just as strong. His BBC Radio1 show was recently nominated for ‘Best Radio Show’ in DJ Mag’s Best of British Awards, whilst his latest production ‘Long Gone Memory’ has been hugely popular having gained vast support from the likes of Chase & Status and Skream & Benga. Elevate will be the perfect setting for Friction to show why he is undoubtedly one of the world’s standout DJs.
Joining him on the night is the uniquely diverse electronic duo, KOAN Sound. Consisting of Will Weeks and James Bastow, their funk-infused direction makes them one of the most enthralling purveyors of glitch-hop and mid-tempo sounds. After cementing their place on the scene in 2011 with the ‘Max Out’ EP, their sound and fan base has grown significantly, leading to the release of two new EP’s ‘Funk Blaster’ and ‘The Adventures of Mr Fox’ on Skrillex’s illustrious Owlsa imprint. This led to huge worldwide exposure after the duo supported Skrillex and Diplo on their ‘Full on Express Tour’ of the States. Unlike other bass-driven electronic duos, they have injected an unprecedented level of funk into their music, bringing listeners on a sonic adventure one drop at a time and emphasising their forward-thinking methods. Their latest offering comes in the form of the critically acclaimed five-track ‘Sanctuary’ EP which again dropped on Owlsa. Tipped for an even bigger 2014, Elevate is delighted to welcome KOAN Sound as very special guests…
Completing the Elevate lineup are two more of drum and bass’ most exhilarating and forward-thinking assets. Exclusively signed to Friction’s Shogun Audio imprint, Rockwell has fast become one of the scene’s leading exports, namely due to his phenomenal productions. Nominated for ‘Best Drum & Bass Track of 2013’ in the coveted Drum & Bass Arena Awards and ‘Best Tune’ in DJ Mag’s Best of British Awards, ‘Detroit’ is undoubtedly the pick of the bunch. Placed firmly at the forefront of Drum and Bass production, Rockwell is set to become a major player in 2014.
In addition, UK based Dimension is a name that has been growing rapidly and gained extraordinary support due to his unique and eclectic sets. By maintaining the correct balance between gigs and studio time, Dimension has delivered a number of quality productions including ‘Crowd Reaction’ and ‘All I Need’. Heavily supported by Friction, Andy C, Wilkinson and more, he has naturally been tipped for an even bigger future. Hosted by MC’s Linguistics and AD, this will undoubtedly be the best Elevate to date.
