| Best known for their EDM hit "#Selfie," which celebrated and skewered 2010's narcissism, the Chainsmokers were a production duo featuring Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall. Forming in 2012, Pall and Taggart's early work included remixes of tracks by Ellie Gould and the Wanted, as well as the single "Erase," a collaboration with Priyanka Chopra. After signing to Republic Records, the duo released "#Selfie" in January 2014. Its mix of bouncy beats and self-obsessed words (courtesy of an uncredited Alexis Killacam) resonated on the charts quickly: the song debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at #55 and entered the Dance/Mix Show chart at #7. Meanwhile, "#Selfie"'s video featured cameos by Snoop Dogg and David Hasselhoff, fueling the song's viral popularity. |
