| Ten Walls has given his first interview since making homophobic comments in 2015.
He denied being derogatory to XLR8R, despite a Facebook post last year, picked up on by Gay Star News, that saw the producer categorise the LGBTI community as "people of different breed."
Having not spoken about his remarks before, the Lithuanian has used the piece to highlight his past involvement with the gay community.
He said: "You know how many artists I produced in my life? This is not ego, but this five hours is not for nothing. Do you know how many gay people there was? Many. Do you know how many gay parties I played as Mario Basanov? Many. Do you know Horse Meat Disco? I played that party. How can I play this party if I am homophobic?"
He's also adamant that his Facebook post was "badly translated" and insists he never linked homosexuality to paedophilia.
"I never wrote anything that linked gay people with paedophiles. I never called them another breed. In my post there is no gay, no homosexual, no nothing."
However, when regular Mixmag contributor Marc Rowlands asked him for his view on gay marriage, he said "they [gay people] have their life, I have my life". He also refused to "talk [about] what I don't understand so very well" regarding gay people adopting children.
Shortly after his comments last year, he apologised for the "insulting content", but then went on a hiatus before a tour was announced in March this year. Controversially, Circoloco booked him to play DC-10 this summer, but a wave of opposition from DJs led to him being pulled from the bill.
Ten Walls dropped his original request for a translator, but occasionally seeked "clarification from one of the better English speakers," Rowlands wrote in the feature. |
