In an interview with The Independent, singer M.I.A. has shown her artistic side. Following an exhausting tour in 2011, the London-born, Sri Lanka/India raised singer started collating a body of visual works. "I moved back to London and I just wanted to sort of go through all of my stuff and clean the slate..." The result of M.I.A. wanting to start a fresh is her new self-titled art book, which features a plethora of work created in different materials and media. The book also contains lyrics an interview with the artist. The artist revealed that releasing all of this work in the form of a book was not what she necessarily wanted to do at first. "We started off making it digital because the type of stuff that I'd done up to that point existed in so many different forms. So initially it started off as a 3D iBook. It was a really big, elaborate idea and there was so much to choose from that nobody knew what to do with it all. I rung around loads of people – digital companies, internet web developers – to develop this way of putting a book together, but it turned out to not really exist at the time." Now all of the 3D work is being made into a documentary about M.I.A, and the 2D pieces are in the book which is out now. M.I.A. is also working on her fourth album, 'Matangi', which will come out sometime next year.
