Chelsea Opera and the Bloomingdale School of Music present excerpts from Benjamin Perry Wenzelberg’s opera in progress, The Sleeping Beauty. Now 14-years old and a seasoned artist with several major opera companies and Chelsea Opera, Benjamin began writing his opera two years ago. Act one has received a piano/vocal reading. Now, 20 minutes of that act have been orchestrated and will be performed by the students of The BSM Chamber Orchestra with soloists from the Chelsea Opera roster. Funded in part by the friends of Chelsea Opera and the Nicholas S. Priore New Possibilities Fund, friends of the Bloomingdale School of Music, and by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, in partnership with the City Council. BSM student ensembles: the Percussion Ensemble, Eric Phinney, conductor the Preparatory Orchestra, Regina Sadowski, conductor the Intermediate Orchestra, Chen Chu, conductor the Chamber Orchestra, in Felix Mendelssohn’s St. Paul Overture, Chen Chu, conductor and The Sleeping Beauty (Act 1) by Benjamin Perry Wenzelberg, Lidiya Yankovskaya, guest conductor and Chelsea Opera soloists: Kate Oberjat, Lara Ryan, Alexandra LoBianco, Anna Noggle, and Justin Ryan.
