| Last year, media tycoon John Malone told his investors that in the future, streaming media companies should start paying for the massive amounts of bandwidth their services chew through.
Mr. Malone, whose Liberty MediaLMCA +0.20% owns SiriusXM satellite radio and has investments in Viacom, Time Warner Inc.TWX -0.02% and others, called out Reed Hastings, CEO of NetflixNFLX -0.94%. The streaming video company is estimated to be responsible for almost 30% of all Internet bandwidth consumed in America. “Reed has to bear in his economic model some of the cost of the capacity that he’s burning,” Mr. Malone said. |
