Ever wanted to stay overnight in Rockefeller Center? Now’s your chance: Airbnb and developer RXR Realty, which manages 75 Rockefeller Plaza, have teamed up to turn 10 stories of that 33-story building—currently home to the American Girl store, among other businesses—into Airbnb-operated rentals. The partnership will function less in the way that Airbnb typically operates, with one person renting out a room or entire home, and more like a hotel. (It will, however, need approval from the city before it can proceed.) The rooms on offer—pricing for which was not immediately revealed—will be “apartment-style suites,” according to the companies; amenities available to guests will include a concierge, a dedicated lobby, a new bar and restaurant, a business center, and more. According to the Wall Street Journal, the rooms for rent within that skyscraper will be on its higher floors—the better to maximize views of the plaza below, including the annual Christmas tree lighting, as well as the surrounding Manhattan landmarks. And while they’ll be rentable through Airbnb, they won’t have that company’s branding, per Scott Reichler, the chairman and CEO of RXR. Instead, they’ll “have a name tied to the neighborhood or the building,” according to the WSJ. While there are plenty of hotels around Rockefeller Center, this would be the first time in recent years that one would be available within the complex itself. The partnership is reportedly the first of several that the companies want to transform in New York City; they’ll collaborate on a similar office/hotel hybrid at a former printing press at 47 Hall Street, across from the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
