As part of the crackdown on legal highs at UK festivals, Glastonbury has joined the list of events banning them. The festival's website homepage underwent a 'blackout' yesterday, taking part in an initiative set by the Association of Independent Festivals, to raise awareness of the dangers of legal highs. Glastonbury follows the likes of Bestival, Lovebox and Global Gathering in the ban, after last year's ONS report showed an 80 per cent increase of legal high deaths from 29 in 2011 to 52 in 2012. The UK's Minister for Crime Prevention, Norman Baker, last week sent an open letter to UK festivals, asking them to adopt a 'no legal high' policy, aimed at preventing the sale of substances such as nitrous oxide canisters, also known as laughing gas.
