Phonica Records and Juno Records have revealed that their vinyl sales are up. Although it was announced last week that one million vinyl albums had been sold in the UK this year, the majority of records sold in the Soho shop and online-only store are not counted by the Official Charts Company (OCC) as they don't meet the specified criteria. Talking to MN2S, Phonica founder Simon Rigg said they no longer supply the OCC with data as over half the shop's stock "doesn't have barcodes", while Juno's label manager, James Vorres, said most physical items "are not registered". However, both confirmed that each of their sales are doing well, growing on a year-by-year basis. Rigg said: "Vinyl is doing really well at the moment, although it seems to be spread more widely these days with less big sellers and more, smaller consistent sellers. [Our] sales are probably up 20 per cent since five years ago." This was reiterated by Vorres: "Vinyl has been growing each year since 2011, and 2014 is 15 per cent up year-on-year. It’s now at its highest point since 2009." A Kickstarter campaign was recently launched for a desktop vinyl cutter, designed for users to cut records at home.
