The first lawsuits have been filed after the fatal crash at South by South West (SXSW) festival in March. The lawsuits accuse SXSW of safety shortcomings after a drink driver went into a group of festival attendees, fatally killing four people. Aspiring rapper Rashad Owens was driving the truck, and was attempting to flee from police after they tried to stop him. Owens has been jailed on capital murder charges since the crash. The families of the victims believe that SXSW organisers didn't provide adequate traffic safeguards, and tried to fit too many people into downtown Austin to see over two thousand live acts. A statement by the festival's lawyers read: "What happened on Red River was a terrible tragedy, caused by Rashad Owen's utter disregard of human life. Our hearts continue to ache for those injured and the families of those who lost their lives. We look forward to his prosecution for his awful crimes." Next year's SXSW festival is due to take place on March 17 2015.
