Techno innovator Richie Hawtin has developed a unique sound installation to be paired with a photography exhibition at the Gagosian Gallery in New York City. According to the New York Times, Hawtin’s installation will complement the work of Andreas Gursky, the acclaimed German artist who is known for vibrant landscape photographs that skew the perception of everyday life. In order to properly add to the imagery presented by Gursky, Hawtin has drifted away from his dancefloor-focused music to produce an immersive ambient soundscapes. The Gagosian offers a sample of the music on its website, adding that Hawtin was an ideal choice for the exhibit: “His unique hypnotic sound echoes Gursky’s exploration of the formal questions of abstraction through scale distortion and rhythmic repetition of motifs.” The new exhibition, dubbed Not Abstract II, will feature a plethora of never before displayed works by Gursky, including images of tulip fields, colorful irons, vacuum cleaners, coffee makers and a piece titled Amazon which displays rows of packages in a warehouse. ‘Not Abstract II’ is set to take place at the Gagosian’s Chelsea location and will run from November 10 to December 23.
