| The Gurtenfestival is a music festival in Switzerland. It is held annually in middle of July on top of Bern's local mountain, the Gurten.
Gurtenfestival in Bern, Switzerland, has attracted some of the biggest names in the music world throughout its 27 years, but this year aims to be the most popular yet. The festival runs from the 12to 15 July and takes place on a wooded hilltop (the Gurten) overlooking the city of Bern, which encompasses the largest public park in the region.
World famous acts including Lenny Kravitz, Norah Jones and Snow Patrol – along with over 60 live acts and 60 DJs covering pop, rock, punk, electro, funk, soul, R&B, hip hop, country, singer-songwriter and blues genres – will play in a unique setting offering panoramic views of Bern. The acts will be spread over three stages: Main Stage, East Stage and West Stage, while the ‘Dance Tents’ will help to give the festival a diverse musical feel and ensure the festival’s estimated 20,000 daily visitors can party into the small hours.
Reaching the peak of the Gurten can be done by foot or for free with a festival ticket on the funicular. A wide selection of food tents and outlets serving pizza, fruit and Asian dishes will keep the hunger pangs at bay. The festival is also home to an open air market with a wide variety of items for sale, and to ensure you keep on spending your hard earned money, a cash machine is located in PostFinance Lounge.
The Historic old town in Bern is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the city has plenty to offer. The 5-star Bellevue Palace is the epitome of luxury and its close proximity to the subway and bus station makes it a very popular choice. The 4-star Savoy Hotel is in the heart of the city with spacious rooms. With its classic design the 3-star Hotel Metropole reminds guests of a time gone by, but the facilities are very much in the present. |
